Bought this drill about 1 1/2 years ago and with min. use the the batteries were shot in 1 year. The run time on them when they were new was short. I had signed up for the life time service agreement.and drove 50 miles round trip to drop them off at a service center, after about 6 weeks with no batteries I called only to find out they were on back order, and I needed a drill. I bought the 18 volt Dewlt and I love it. The Dewalt Batteries run time is long and strong. I have friends with the Dewalt and the batteries are 5 years old and still working.

I have 12 drills. Of that total, 6 are Cordless consisting of 3 Dewalt, 2 Ryobi and 1 Ridgid. I wish all 6 were Ridgid. I was able to register it for a Lifetime Warranty, something not offered by any other tool manufacturer (at least I have not found any other manufacturer offering one).

I like everything about this Ridgid Cordless Drill, I use an 18v Lithium Battery and it has excellent power and battery capacity. This drill appears (so far) to be a well designed, rugged and reliable tool. Based on my experiences with Ridgid tools (this and others), I highly recommend Ridgid.

I really like Ridgid tools and have several. Since I already have several batteries and chargers, I really did not need to purchase another complete kit. Therefore, getting just the tool at a great price was an opportunity I did not want to pass up. The Autoshift Drill/Driver arrived on time and in what seemed to be new shape. It was not in the original packaging, so I could not guarantee that it was brand new...but I believe it was. The tool works as advertised and I am very happy with it.

The reason for four stars instead of five is that when I went to register it online, I found out that the part number sent to me was originally part of a kit and since I did not have the other pieces of the kit, I did not have their serial numbers, so the system would not allow me to register the tool. On having some correspondance with Ridgid support, I also found out that the Lifetime Service Agreement is only available for tools sold through Home Depot. I would be totally happy with this tool if I had not had to go through all this extra effort to get the tool registered for warranty (which I am still not guaranteed of). The batteries are the main reason I like the lifetime warranty anyway, so I don't mind not having it on the tool itself.

I have a wide assortment of Ridgid tools. All of my cordless tools, except one, are Ridgid. I purchased this drill recently from an Amazon Marketplace seller that goes by the name "Minng88". They offered the tool new with no charger or battery and delivered it as promised in the condition that they stated (excellent customer service). Since I have plenty of Ridgid chargers and batteries for my other Ridgid cordless tools, it was a great opportunity to get the new auto-shift drill driver to try out. It is GREAT! No more stopping halfway through to change the gear/speed setting. It start out at full speed and as soon as it detected more resistence, it automatically down-shifted to the lower, higher-torque setting to drive home the lag screws that I was driving. Just like the automatic transmission in a car! Really cool! I never hesitate to recommend the Ridgid brand and I certainly recommend the Ridgid Auto-Shift drill/driver!

I've had this reconditioned set for about a year during which I've done heavy remodeling at multiple sites. The drill is fantastic, powerful, has lots of torque, and heavy. I've used it to drill holes for circuit wires through floor joists. It's great.

And nothing against the drill, but I would say the shining star of this set is the reciprocating saw. I had no idea how useful it would be to have a cordless saw. Attach a pruning blade, like the Skil's "The Ugly" blades, and - you don't quite have a chainsaw - but you'll be able to handle nearly any tree pruning job and even buck smaller branches into firewood size pieces. Plus, the four blade positions are a nice feature that do occasionally make a job less awkward. With a metal blade, it cut through an old long forgotten bike lock cable with a minimum of fuss. Highly recommended.

"M12 Milwaukee pipe cutter" 2010-03-08

I've purchased this item twice from Home Depot and returned both and bought this current refurbished one. The refurbished one stopped working on day two before the initial battery was finished with its' first charge. The first one from Home Depot did the same thing on day two shortly after the second charged battery was installed.

The second Home Depot tool started to run on the copper pipe on 1" signifigantly unless I held pressure against the direction it was running. It was like cutting a fine thread on a pipe machine for gas installation. The gentleman who made the review was correct about buying one for each of three trucks twice in a 14 day period. He is not exaggerating one bit and learn from our misfortune. It's not so much that it is made in China than it is poorly engineered and happens to be Milwaukee's big lemon that they should take off the shelves until they work out the kinks. I'm very careful with my refurbished one since I received it from the repair shop and I get the feeling it will last very shortly until it goes out. I definetly do not misuse the tool and have 29 years plumbing experience and use other M12 tools with no problems. The people who have good reviews just made their review to early in my opinion. Great tool I must say when it works. My fellow plumbers have lost interest in it since I've returned them and one co-worker saw it die right in front of me. Hope this helps you.

I opted for a push mower. My lawns are not too small, but I can rotate the mowing on the lawns on alternative weeks. But I can't find anything manual tools that can trim or edge. The price of this is good with two tools in one. Depending on how you do the edge of your lawn, you need either a trimmer or edger, or both.

The trimmer looks brand new, except that the edger guide, the metal wire loop, is a little loose. But I'm not sure if it is supposed to be like this. Because I don't find it helpful during edging.

The battery doesn't last that much long, not an hour. It may be 30 minutes. I wasn't counting because trimming and edging do not need to be done every week. I rotate the jobs on alternative weekends so all I need is some 20 minutes of run-time.

Trimming and edging works well, light weight, and very easy to switch. Except that when you edge, because of the shield, you cannot see exactly where the cutting edge will be. I think the edging guide is for this purpose, but I don't think it helps a lot, or I don't understand it. But it's no big deal. You can cut a tiny little bit and see where the edge goes, then adjust position and continue along the lawn edge.

The auto feeding works well, but not a sure thing. Sometimes I topple the on-off switch a few times to make sure enough string comes out, to make sure that's not the reason I missed the mark. I don't know if it's better than the bump feed.

You can get compatible string with the same thickness a lot cheaper. Rolling it up onto the wheel isn't difficult or time consuming. Though it may not worth it for you to save a few bucks.

I actually purchased the non-reconditioned unit. I have a 1/2 acre yard with a fenced in 100x20 foot raised bed garden, greenhouse, deck, and quite a few bushes and trees. It handles the whole thing without a problem. It is a bit on the heavy side, but not that it causes a problem. The variable speed trigger is nice, it takes some getting used to, to keep the speed where you want it. I mostly use it at a medium speed, but when you need the high speed it is nice and powerful. Its well built and easy to adjust the length. Works great for me!

This is a powerful, rugged, trimmer. It sets the standard for what a cordless trimmer should be. Prefer using it over the gas trimmer for power, ease of starting, and NO vibration. The weak spot as others have mentioned is the battery. Probably getting around 20 minutes per battery. We have two. Would have rated it a "5" if not for the battery. If you can live with 40 minutes of trimming a day, then get it and a second battery.

This trimmer is indeed as powerful as advertised. The problem is I had to buy another battery at $99 (ouch) in order to finish trimming around my four acres. Thank goodness this product already comes with a dual charger.

I see a lot of reviews that state it only lasts 15-20 minutes. I found I get much more time than this. The trigger is variable, the harder you pull the trigger, the faster the trimmer spins. Most of the time I only have to pull the trigger back half way to get the job done. This saves battery life and you get to trim for a longer period of time. You will have to realize that you have to stop pulling in the trigger when you walk to a separate section of your property, instead of keeping it running as you would a gas trimmer. With new technology, comes new ways of using an item. Use it correctly and you will have a great experience with this trimmer. Use it like a gas trimmer (keeping it running from job to job) and you will run out of power sooner than you would like.

It would be nice if B&D came out with an updated battery back that lasts longer (like a Ni-MH or newer battery technology) instead of the older style Ni-Cad they have now.

Overall I would have given this a five out of five if not for the old battery technology that is currently used. The adjustable arm, adjustable shoulder strap (a must for older people like me who can't handle the whole weight of it for a long period of time), and practically maintenance free design makes this a good choice over a gas powered trimmer. If you are into the "green movement" (or whatever the term is now) or if you just want to save money on fuel and tired of breathing in 2-cycle engine fumes, then this is the trimmer for you. Just remember, this is not a toy, and it weighs about as much as a large gas trimmer of the same power (in other words, it is not a light weight, cheaply made toy).

This trimmer is as powerful as advertised, but only a 15 to 20 minute runtime; and a slow 8 hr. recharge. A second battery for the twin charger is $113.00. Ouch! I wish tht info. had been revealed before my purchase. I would have stayed with a gas trimmer!
