I bought this tool set six months ago. I have enjoyed using most of the items (I have not used the grinder or the circular saw yet).

I love having a driver and a drill.

The drill has tons of power (about ripped my wrist off a couple of times).

The driver has considerably less power.

The flashlight is great. We recently used it when our power when out for eight hours. The flexible floodlight was great to shine on our cealing in our bedroom and light up the room. I also use the flash light when camping and am always amazed and how long the battery lasts.

The reciprocating saw is amazing. I bought some pruning blades for it (skill) and used it to prunce and apple and a plum tree this year. It does a great job and has a lot of power. The power tends to go right up until the end and then it dies.

The charge seems to take about 60-90 minutes.

I found this Dewalt Combo pack on ToolKing.com and have been very impressed. Now I do my research on Amazon and then go to ToolKing.com to check pricing and quite often will by from Toolking.

I would definitely buy this set again. I love having a nice DeWalt set that can do just about anything I need it to.

But I'm not able to tell that it is. Except from the stickers telling you that it is. The first times I ran the electric motors it even smells brand new. I'm so far very pleased. No dents that I can say may come from it beeing used. Must be good value for money.

The only part I'm missing is that the charger may have been made both for 110 and 220V~ not only 110V~

At first I was hesitant about buying re-conditioned tools. With amazon's great return policy, I thought I'd take a chance. I am VERY GLAD I did!

Every one of the 6 tools, both batteries, charger, blades, case, etc. look TOTALLY NEW. Other than the reconditioned sticker on the box, you'd never know they were reconditioned. There are no marks, dents, sawdust, or anything to indicate any use. I did a quick test on the tools, and they all function 100%. The impact driver is worth its weight in gold - it can drive a 4" decking screw right through a 2x6 PT board next to a knot without a pilot hole.

This is completely useless. I used two new fully-charged batteries, and each only lasted 5 minutes, just enough to make a mess, and not enough to get any real work done. The hedgehog uses too much energy for a battery. Also, it kept jamming even though I was clipping small, skinny branches. I used this a total of three times (about 30 min. over a weeklong period) when smoke started coming from the motor and it burnt up. Unfortunately, I lost my receipt, so the company will not work with me in replacing this hunk of junk. Buyer beware, and if you disregard this message, please keep your receipt!

The Black and Decker Hedge Hog works well as long as the batteries are fully charged. As soon as they start to run down your clippings will look more torn than nicely cut. Overall I really like the ease of use, and no more cutting through extension cords.

I have many of the M18 cordless tools. I can't sing the praises of these tools enough - especially this impact driver.

-It is truly compact - goes places the drill/driver can't.

-It is quite light - including with the full size battery attached.

-It has tons of torque, and has never failed me. It has so much muscle, my full size Milwaukee 120v. impact drill is rarely used anymore. The M18 drill/driver/impact plays second fiddle to this little impact driver.

-In the last ten months it has smoked through thousands of 2-1/2" torx screws, 500 5" torx lags, 250 7" torx lags, 5,000 1-1/2" washer-head screws, and lots more.

-It has been dropped, kicked around, and generally mistreated by willing, but occasionally clumsy, helpers. It keeps chattering away to this day.

-When it comes to fasteners, it is the clearly preferred by everyone that has put some time on it, and is now the first tool that disappears for tasks.

-The batteries (have three of them 'tween all the tools used) have been excellent and without fault. Fantastic number of screws driven per charge. See my other review on the M18 XC batteries.

-The trigger gives me all the control I would expect of a non-clutched driver.

-You get used to the forward/reverse switch location. Like it much better than the old 120v hole hawg location.

An absolute animal, and to think it was a "free" add-on in the Milwaukee kit I purchased. I would never have thought it would turn into THE most used and loved tool of all.

Got the tool in a timely manner, just before New Years. Works great. Excellent companion to my MIlwaukee driver-drill. It came with the pocket hanger clip but not the bit holder, both of which mount on the side of the lower handle, just above the battery. Called CPO about the shortage. Haven't heard any more from them nor have I seen the part arrive in the mail. Somewhat disappointed as small bits are what makes this tool handy. It would be nice to have a spare onboard. Satisfied so far. Thanks.

The only people that will tell you an impact driver is basically a drill are the ones that have never used one! I will never use a drill to screw again. I'm not a carpenter but my friend has a building company and he swears by impacts for screwing as well.

As for this specific tool, I switched from a Makita which did the job, but when the M18 line came out I had to have it. This impact feels much more durable in your hand than the Makita. I have both the compact batteries and the XC models and would recommend anyone to make sure they have both in their arsenal. The compact complements the size of this impact but for long drawn-out jobs it's nice to have the more powerful battery

"Milwaukee cordless tool Combo Set" 2010-03-02

Background: After having my 14.4 volt Black and Decker Firestorm Combo Set stolen, I spent weeks doing research on new and reconditioned tools. I found my old Combo Set very useful and intended to replace it with a similar set up: drill, circular saw, light, reciprocating saw charger and two batteries (with an additional drill and two more batteries to be purchased later). I made multiple trips each to Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears to check sales as well as try the feel of various brands. I also spent many hours online reading reviews and price checking. In my store visits I encountered several sets that would have made good purchases, including a Porter Cable Combo Set on sale at Lowes.

My priorities: I would have gladly gone with Black and Decker and 14.4 volt technology again. Those tools were a good investment, and, at about $130, the best CHEAP deal I could find. In thousands of hours and six years of heavy home use, the B & D set rarely lacked power. Four batteries and two drills were adequate for continuous use in drilling holes and driving screws. Perhaps even more importantly, I got very lucky with the balance, weight and grip of those tools (especially the drills). They fit my hands comfortably, enabling me many hours of use with minimal fatigue. I enjoyed using those tools. Comfort, usefulness and durability became my top priorities in replacement. Price was important, but secondary.

Results: It came down to Makita and Milwaukee. Their overall reputation for reliability and customer satisfaction is very good. The drills seem balanced and fit my hands well. I opted for the 18 volt Lithium batteries, which do not seem as heavy as similar NiCad batteries and will probably be manufactured for many years. However, there seemed to be occasional mechanical issues with Makita tools and batteries. Additionally, when shopping, I seemed to be able to find more complete and less expensive Combo Sets from Milwaukee. In part this was due to the excellent prices and selection at CPO Milwaukee. I ordered the Combo Set about six months ago. It arrived promptly and in excellent condition (there was minimal packaging and some damage to the box but the contents were unaffected). The tools appear new or very close to new. I have used all the tools to some degree. They feel very solid and all work perfectly. I can feel a large improvement in each individual tools quality over my old set, although they are a little heavier. The saws both feel much sturdier and stronger, and I plan to use the cordless circular saw as a replacement for my (also stolen) corded circular saw. There are nice features on the tools: built in work lights, a good chuck on the drill, the head of the light swivels, a great carrying bag, the circular saw has an easily adjustable shoe and, an amazing improvement in ease of use, the blade is mounted on the left side of the saw. Also, one of the included batteries was the lighter, more compact 18 volt XC.

Notes and quibbles: Quibbles - the Milwaukee batteries are sometimes a little difficult to insert into and remove from the tools or charger. Notes - I replaced my second stolen B &D drill with a very compact Bosch 12 volt impact driver from CPO Bosch. I will eventually write a second review. In summary: I love it. I will probably purchase the matching drill. The impact driver, which has plenty of power and fits and feels great in my hand, can be carried in a large pocket. It's only drawback, in impact mode, where it operates much of the time, is LOUD! I have taken to using earplugs.

I would gladly purchase these tools again and CPO did its' part perfectly.

This is my first set of cordless tools. I had some old corded hand me downs from my dad and felt it was time to get a set. I don't use them a whole lot but wanted something nice for when I did need them. These are used tools, so they have some minor scratches but they work just fine. For the discount it is the way to go.

The batteries work just like everyone says. They give full power until the every end and they just quit. The power indicator on the battery is a nice feature.

The drill is the smaller of the two (450 in-lbs I think) but still has plenty of power to drill through 2x4s, cabinets, other stuff around the house.

Ok drill for puttering around the house and that's about it. I purchased it because my 12-volt Pany's batteries were dying. I love Amazon and have purchased many hand and power tools over the years from them but this purchase was from Lowe's. They had it on sale for $59. I check the power tool prices on Amazon, nightly, but it appears there are no deals to be had anymore there! In my opinion, if their price is not at least 60% off, it is not a good deal and you can find it cheaper somewhere else. This is more of a review for Amazon than the Hitachi drill as you can tell! I love shopping there, but for some reason, the prices aren't competitive anymore. Yeah! You might be able to grab something, on occasion, but that's about it. Check your local prices before you buy! I work on Microwave Stations. I take care of my tools exceptionally well; I don't drop them, mistreat them or abuse them. A spare can quite often be 1200 feet below and the effort needed to achieve work position necessitates the minimum load during tower acsention. The problem with Hitachi drill is the way the battery is locked in the place. Two very small tabs along side the batteries break very easy during insertion. The broken tabs allow the battery to fall loose from the tool endangering anyone or anything beneath the work area, be it 3 feet or 1200 feet. Anything impacted by the falling battery is subject to injury or damage. The tool works very well and is comfortable but be cautious.

"Great Power for the Weight" 2010-03-09

Well constructed, with excellent balance, power, and weight. The impact drive is especially powerful, and would highly recommend getting the combo, as the extra cost is totally worth it. The only complaint I have is that the trigger distance between slow and full speed is very small. This isn't too big of a problem because of the speed selector (on the drill), but I takes a little getting used to after using a NiCd for many years. The case is well designed and compact, and while perhaps not as durable/protective as hard plastic, it stores both drills snuggly, along with charger, and room for a few drill bits. I can't speak for their drills, but my Milwaukee router and circular saw came in massive, unwieldy cases, so having a soft sided, compact case (that could also double as one manly lunchbox) is nice.

I bought this combo kit to replace my 18 volt Dewalt combo kit because the batteries were not holding up and I didn't want to spend the money on new batteries. After plenty of trips to the big box stores I decided that the Makita was the way to go because of battery life, ballance, and weight of the tool. I have only used it for a couple of projects but I could tell it out performed my old tools hands down. I hope it lasts as long as my old Dewalt tools. When I bought my Dewalt tools many years ago I couldnt see at the time how they could improve on the quality of the tools. I am in that same situation again with Makita. Looking forward to my next purchase in 5-8 years to see the changes again.
